Let’s face it, generally speaking, handmade is usually more interesting — involving the human craftsmanship in the process just really adds to the appeal. I love the unique look of this Handmade Large Hickory Wood Jewelry Box. To me, it looks like it started out as a much smaller box and then through the wave of a wand it magically stretched upward and out (but maybe that’s just my imagination getting away from me). We did say that we were looking at unique handmade jewelry boxes today, didn’t we? Well this Flame Box Elder Wood and Spalted Poplar Wood Jewelry Box goes a bit beyond unique… and into alien-looking! How funky and how cool. Obviously, the shape is what grabs you here (people will definitely notice that shape!), but I also want to talk about the wood. I had never heard of Flame Box Elder wood, and though I’m still not exactly sure what that is, the look of it is really unique, with red flame-like grain running through it. Wow!

It’s made with pine and hardwoods and the inlaid corers of walnut give it a great, solid, classic feel. But it’s the artistic application of the blue stain that really makes this one work. For me, the pattern has the feel of an abstract painting of a beach, tidepools & sky.

What wonderful coloring on this Large Handmade Walnut and Oak Jewelry Box! I really like the deep, dark color of the walnut used here and the oak handles and inlays make for a perfect contrast. But tha’s not all — the shape of it is almost hypnotic. The effect is like that of a photo taken at an odd angle, distorting the proportions, except that these proportions have actually been stretched in real life. Way cool!

Handmade Inlaid Wooden Box
There is wonderful mosaic work at work with this Handmade Inlaid Wooden Box. The beautiful flowing pattern of the lid has been created using 5 different inlaid woods and a circle of turquoise to create an abstract nature scene which, to me, evokes the feel of a daylight moon over the tops of rolling waves. You may see something else in this abstract, but whatever you see, I think that you’ll agree with me that it is gorgeous.
